Traffic performance analysis of handover in GMPCS systems

چکیده
This paper presents an analysis of handover process and its effect on the traffic performance in global mobile personal communications by satellite (GMPCS) systems. With the nongeostationary satellite used for the system, the handover scheme needs to be applied to make calls completed without any interruption. An analytical model is developed for the analysis of the handover process. We derive mean number of handovers and handover delay with various satellite antenna patterns and different settings of handover parameter. A suitable traffic model of the whole system is also derived after due considerations of the handover process. The system performance measures include new call blocking probability, call dropping probability, and mean number of handovers per call. A computer simulation is developed and used. We also analyze the system performance with a number of handover priority schemes applied. Based on the study results, handover parameters are selected to maximize the traffic performance. It is shown that we can improve overall traffic performance of GMPCS system by setting handover parameters properly and using the handover priority scheme.

Handover Priority Schemes for Multi-Class Traffic in LEO Mobile Satellite Systems
In this paper, an analytical framework is developed to evaluate the performance of complete sharing (CS) with two different handover priority schemes for multi-class traffic in Low Earth Orbit-Mobile Satellite Systems (LEO-MSS). In the first priority scheme, the handover requests are given the higher priority using queuing scheme with also taking into consideration the priority between classes ...

Machine to machine (M2M) communication, which is also known as machine type communication (MTC), is one of the most fascinating parts of mobile communication technology and also an important practical application of the Internet of Things. The main objective of this type of communication, is handling massive heterogeneous devices with low network overheads and high security guarantees. Hence, v...
متن کاملGraceful Degradation of Transport Layer in Mobile Internet
In mobile Internet, a handover may result in significant degradation of transmission performance. Especially in a shared medium wireless network, handover traffic which moves into a new wireless access network competes with existing traffic for available bandwidth of shared medium wireless channel. This interaction between handover traffic and existing traffic causes significant performance deg...
متن کاملOptimizing the Performance of Mobile Communications Systems using a Queue-per-Transceiver Handover Priority Technique
This paper analyses an alternative traffic queuing model for mobile communications systems. According to the proposed model, the queue of handover calls is separated to each of the used transceivers of a base transceiver station that covers a particular area. Fixed Channel Assignment and TDMA are considered, while the proposed technique is compared to the classic queuing model. The comparison r...
متن کاملDifferent Resource Sharing Policies under a General Channel Management Strategy for Multi-Class Traffic in LEO-MSS
An analytical framework for the efficient evaluation of the performance of complete sharing (CS) and complete partitioning (CP) resource sharing policies under a newly proposed general channel management strategy for multi-class traffic in Low Earth Orbit-Mobile Satellite Systems (LEO-MSS) is presented. This strategy gives a higher priority to handover calls over new calls by combine the guard ...
